CASUAL PHOTOPHILE is an entertainingly written and easily understood resource for photo geeks that explores the history and continued use of vintage cameras, as well as the newest technology and trends in photography.

We aim to be the preeminent resource for anyone interested in classic cameras, film photography, and the way these technologies maintain relevance in the digital age.

Comprised entirely of our own original articles, readers will find opinion pieces, camera and lens reviews, photography tips, exploded views of classic machines, curated sales, and more.

The name of the site reflects a desire to talk about cameras in a casual way, eschewing the snobbery and elitism sometimes encountered in the hobby. With this in mind, CP’s primary goal is to encourage the pursuit of joyful photography in all readers regardless of their experience or knowledge level.

James Tocchio launched CP in 2014, and he’s the man behind almost everything seen on the site. He’s spent years researching, collecting, and shooting classic cameras as well as the most advanced, cutting-edge machines. He also founded and operates the vintage camera shop at Fstopcameras.com.

Josh Solomon is a photo geek, musician, and student from Los Angeles. He joined the team in 2016 as a contributing writer. He loves shooting film through uniquely mechanical cameras.
